I have led Cobalt since 2013. Over the last decade, I have built the organization into its current position as a powerhouse of advocacy, public policy, civic education and political engagement. Cobalt is a grassroots, statewide Colorado organization that advances abortion access and reproductive rights. Cobalt believes nothing should stand between you and your health decisions, and is dedicated to fighting for systems, structures and policies that protect reproductive rights and guarantee comprehensive, universal access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion. Cobalt operates the independent Cobalt Abortion Fund, which has seen patient needs skyrocket since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.I previously served as the president of Emerge America, a national organization that trains women to run for elected office. She served as the majority caucus chair in the Colorado State Legislature from February 2008 through 2010. Before serving in the General Assembly, she represented the 7th Congressional District on Colorado’s elected State Board of Education. I serve as a member of the Adams State University Board of Trustees. Recently, I was honored with the 2023 University Distinguished Service Award issued by University of Colorado Board of Regents for her contributions to Colorado communities as a legislator, nonprofit leader, and advocate of education and public service. My prior work experience includes teaching political science (10 years of teaching experience), serving as a trainer for the candidates seeking elected office, and creating the bipartisan Colorado Legislative Women's Caucus. I worked for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE), eCollege, and as Assistant Dean at the University of Denver’s Korbel School of International Studies. In Washington DC, I was a manager at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs.
