About Karen Sinclair

I’m a STEM professional with deep experience and knowledge at the intersection of science, innovation, the law and business. Known for my strategic and commercial nous, clarity and passion, my primary role is as an Australian Registered Patent and Trade Mark Attorney working with both major multinationals and Australian start ups to strategically protect, manage and commercialise their innovation in Australia and throughout the world. I joined the patent attorney profession in 1987, was a Principal of IP firm Watermark between 1995 and 2020 and now ply my trade at Griffith Hack. I was Chairman of the Watermark’s leadership team in 2016 when, with my co owners, we sold into listed business, Xenith IP Group Limited, since acquired by IPH Ltd.I’m a strategist when it comes to IP. What drives me is giving my clients the perspective to turn their IP into a working portfolio of assets which delivers commercial outcomes, enhances their competitive position in the market and which is aligned with the overall objectives of the business. I love seeing my clients’ products on the shelf. In the end, that’s what it’s about. Innovation is often remarkable, but unless it’s successful in the marketplace it hasn’t done its job – and neither have I. I love putting IP in a whole-of-business, management context for my clients.I also have a passion for passing on what I know both to clients and to the next generation of intellectual asset managers. My students keep me fresh, connected, stimulated, motivated and current.Specialties: *intellectual property*intellectual asset management*strategic intellectual property management*IP training and education*chemical synthesis *pharmaceuticals *agrochemicals *polymer chemistry*molecular biology*formulation chemistry *human and animal healthcare.

Listed skills include Patents, Intellectual Property, Trademarks, Intellectual Asset Management, and 18 others.
