The Immigrant Justice Clinic (IJC) in the Economic Justice Institute of the University of Wisconsin Madison provides legal services to Wisconsin's underserved immigrant community. This includes filing applications for humanitarian relief available to non-citizen victims of crime, persecution, and human trafficking or defending non-citizens facing removal in Immigration Court.Students also make monthly visits to the Dodge County Detention Center in Juneau, Wisconsin, to conduct screenings and provide legal assistance to non-citizens detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Clinical students also engage in appellate advocacy on behalf of indigent non-citizens through the filing of written legal briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals. IJC also works with criminal defense attorneys to negotiate plea agreements that will not adversely affect their clients' immigration status. Law students (under the supervision of the clinical instructor) provide these legal services free of charge.- Represented clients in federal immigration court, including oral arguments in asylum cases. - Collaborated with research team to prepare briefs and supporting materials and file the same for hearings. - Conducted extensive research to prepare country condition reports, focused mostly on Central and South American countries.- Assessed client intakes and researched international country condition reports to brief litigation team. - Coordinated with federal agencies’ representatives to interview and assist detained non-citizens.

The Office of the Solicitor performs the legal work for the United States Department of the Interior. The Office’s more than 430 attorneys and support staff provide advice, counsel, and legal representation to the Secretary and other Department leadership, as well as to all Department bureaus and offices. The Immediate Office of the Solicitor includes the Solicitor, Principal Deputy Solicitor, and several Deputy Solicitors and Counselors.
