One of Karen’s strongest skills is process building. She has the technical chops needed to automate our workflows effectively and intuitively. She is constantly improving processes - may it be finding ways to remove human error in the offer process, automating how we update offer letters, debugging constant integration issues, or streamlining how we deliver a weekly hiring report. Most of all, Karen is a pleasure to work with. She is eager to grow, innately curious, takes feedback and actions on it, and is respectable and friendly to all her partners and peers. The projects she worked on during the internship required Karen to collaborate with a number of cross-functional department contributors and subject matter experts to develop training content. She did an exceptional job and left lasting impressions with many leaders, such as Managers and Directors, throughout our organization. In total, Karen helped develop and design more than 10 online training modules that are still referenced by our Customer Service teams around the world as they assist our customers. One example, that I would like to share with you, is a great demonstration of Karen’s leadership skills, professionalism, and commitment. As a Johnson & Johnson company, LifeScan employees are expected to conduct themselves in accordance to the Johnson & Johnson Credo. It did not take long for Karen to connect with our Credo value that stresses the importance of charity and community. Although she was only two weeks into her internship at LifeScan Karen was able to rally the other eight interns on campus and organized a bake sale to benefit WISER, which is one of Johnson & Johnson’s major charities. Under Karen’s leadership, the group produced pre-sale marketing material, made sales pitches, and managed hundreds of pre-sale order requests on their own time. Through their efforts, the interns raised well over $500 for WISER, (which more than doubled their goal of $250). What impressed everyone the most about this fundraiser is that no other group of interns had ever done anything like this in the previous years that LifeScan has hosted the summer internship program. I can honestly say that none of this would have been possible had Karen not proactively taken the lead on this project. I have stayed connected with Karen over the past 3 years and I feel that she has an extremely bright future ahead of her. She is a very well-rounded young adult that possesses the maturity and leadership skills that will lead to a successful career in any field she chooses."
