I have recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in History, with additional focus in the area of Anthropology. During my junior year I was a part of the Learning Lab internship where we had the opportunity to learn about archival theory and put it into practice while working on our own independent research projects. I created my own oral history collection that is now a part of the Louie B. Nunn Center under the project title, "Making Strides: Women in the Equine Industry."I have also worked extensively in the equine industry, and more specifically in the thoroughbred industry. I have worked at Claiborne and Juddmonte Farms as a groom, working with weanlings, yearlings, and two-year-olds in training. There we had to manage our own barns and all aspects of the horses' well being from stall cleaning, ground training, and grooming, to administering medical treatments and showing for farm managers. I also worked at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington as a radiology technician. There I learned how to prep horses for surgery, administer a variety of injections both intramuscular and intravenous, insert catheters, as well as assist in lameness exams. We needed to work under pressure and time constraints in order to keep the clinic moving efficiently, while always maintaining a high standard of care for our patients'. Most recently I am working at King's Garden in Lexington where I must manage customer care, plant care, and create unique mixed pots. Working in bust environments is a crucial skill to have in order to accomplish all of tasks I have each day and to assist each customer to the best of my ability. I also need to be able to work independently, with little instruction from superiors.
