Karim Ahmad is a writer, culture strategist, Muslim, and parent. His creative practice uses worldbuilding and narrative change strategies to build just and beautiful futures for historically marginalized communities. In addition to his own projects below, Karim works as a worldbuilding consultant for various clients, which have included studios, leading media nonprofits, and foundations.Karim is the creator of Muslim Futures, a collaborative narrative change project, bringing together a powerful array of Muslim writers, artists and filmmakers to shift the perceptions of Muslims in America by creating a multiverse of stories set in radically aspirational futures for our community. These stories will be iterated over time as a literary fiction anthology, a comic book series, and a slate of TV series and feature films.He is the founder of Restoring the Future, a consultancy and network of culture workers across all sectors of the field (from fiction to nonfiction, features to episodic), using worldbuilding and industry organizing to design, prototype, and proliferate restorative values and practices across the media arts ecosystem. Karim writes science fiction comic books depicting our greatest hopes and deepest fears about the not-too-distant future through the lens of trauma as a source of power. His latest series, DIVIDE, about family separation and the criminalization of immigrants, is available now wherever comics are sold, published via CEX Publishing.He was previously the Director of Outreach & Inclusion at the Sundance Institute, a Senior Strategist and Senior Producer at ITVS, and the Creator and Showrunner of the groundbreaking science fiction series, FUTURESTATES.
