Muslim Futures is a collaborative narrative change project, bringing together a powerful array of Muslim writers, artists and filmmakers to shift the perceptions of Muslims in America by creating a multiverse of stories set in radically aspirational futures for our community. These stories will be iterated over time as a literary fiction anthology, a comic book series, and a series and/or slate of feature films.

Designs and orchestrates worldbuilding experiences and processes for the purposes of co-creating reality-based and research-driven futuristic storyworlds for feature film, TV series and graphic novel development and production. Previous clients include Imagine Entertainment, IMAX, Cinereach, Louverture Films, and the Guild of Future Architects. Additionally, through his organizing consultancy Restoring the Future, Karim has been commissioned by visionary foundations such as Open Society Foundations, Perspective Fund, the Ford Foundation, and the Color Congress, for the purposes of using worldbuilding to co-design and prototype (in collaboration with leading POC-led arts organizations) new models for a more radically aspirational media arts system of the future that function as a basis for field wide organizing.

Restoring the Future is a consultancy led by Karim and comprises a vast network of participating organizations and individual culture workers, aligned by values to dismantle the toxic and extractive roots of our media arts system, and seek to use future architecture and industry organizing to design, prototype and proliferate practices informed by restorative justice principles, in service of the creation of a more radically aspirational media arts system of the future that creates the conditions for artists from historically marginalized communities to thrive.

At Sundance, Karim worked to build a just and beautiful future for artists from historically communities by designing and overseeing emerging artist outreach and support efforts (grants, fellowships, workshops), safety, belonging and accessibility initiatives, and systemic change projects with allied arts organizations.

Pitched, developed, and produced series (fiction, non-fiction, immersive, and journalistic) as well as interactive projects for PBS digital platforms. Oversaw all aspects of story development, production and distribution, and creating interconnected experiences across multiple platforms, worked with Marketing to promote audience development in target demographics, with an emphasis on supporting artists and audiences from historically marginalized communities.

Created, developed, and produced this anthology web series of socially driven science fiction short films for ITVS, a first of its kind for public media. Comprised of over 40 films from acclaimed directors such as Nisha Ganatra, Barry Jenkins, and Rose Troche, as well as numerous up-and-coming filmmakers, this series explored today's global realities via stories about the future. Streaming online at Futurestates.tv, PBS.org, and YouTube, this series garnered over 1 million hits in its first season alone, and premiered at such top tier festivals as SXSW, Tribeca, Venice, and the NYFF.For its 5th and final season, under my leadership, the series was rebooted as an immersive storyworld experience. A nonlinear futuristic mystery, and arguably the first web series of its kind, telling an interconnected story across Twitter, Tumblr, and at the redesigned Futurestates.tv
