KARIM is a partner in the Litigation group of Sidley Austin's Chicago office. His practice involves representing individual and corporate clients in white collar and securities enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex civil litigation. Karim has represented registrants, public accounting firms and individuals in enforcement actions by the SEC involving a variety of issues, including public disclosure obligations, impairment testing and segment reporting standards, and loss reserve accounting. Karim also represents individuals and public accounting firms in actions by the PCAOB and state agencies charged with regulating the accounting profession. He also has experience conducting internal investigations in matters involving price-fixing and public corruption.In the civil litigation context, Karim has represented clients in matters involving professional negligence claims, claims against auditors under the Securities Act, business tort and consumer fraud claims, and claims of defamation. Karim also has experience investigating complaints and bringing cases against jurists on behalf of the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board, the disciplinary entity responsible for inquiring into allegations of misconduct by Illinois judicial officers. Karim’s experience includes conducting fact investigation; preparing witnesses to testify in depositions, at trial, and in regulatory proceedings; working with expert witnesses; writing motions; preparing discovery; managing electronic reviews and productions; and trial, including the examination of witnesses and delivery of statements.Karim received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 2012 and a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2006. Before joining the firm, Karim served as a law clerk for the Honorable Virginia M. Kendall in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to law school, Karim was a Certified Public Accountant.
