Previously, Karim led the immunoregulation department at Pfizer, an R&D group focused on innovative approaches to elicit homeostatic immune responses for the treatment of immune related disorders. In addition, Karim led external R&D innovation for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Prior to joining Pfizer, he was the founder of Modus BioMedicine, a start-up biotechnology company focused on treatments for transplantation and autoimmune disease. Before that, he spent nine years at Roche Pharmaceuticals in multiple positions, including Head of Inflammation Discovery Research Pharmacology. Karim received his doctorate in biochemistry from University College, London, and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at University of California, San Francisco, and at Stanford University. He received a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London. He also attended Université Claude Bernard Lyon I in France after obtaining his French Baccalaureate (Section D) from the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in Ankara. Karim is a French-American dual citizen.
