Room to Read envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities and the world.Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read is creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. We are achieving this goal by providing support during the two most critical time periods in a child’s education: primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. Our Literacy Program trains and coaches teachers, creates quality books and curricular materials and establishes libraries filled with diverse children’s books in local languages that can be enjoyed at school or home. Our Girls’ Education Program helps girls build skills to succeed in secondary school and make key life decisions by providing life skills curriculum, opportunities for mentorship and peer support, and family and community engagement. The Guardian ad Litem program is part of the child protection system in the USA. In my role as Guardian ad Litem (or: court appointed special advocate), I represented the best interest of approximately 100 abused and/or neglected children in legal proceedings. I advocated for their needs, such as contact with parents, their mental and physical health, social life, and educational needs.

Instituto Fazendo História is a Brazilian not-for-profit organization, aiming to improve the life of abused and/or neglected children, living in shelter homes. Instituto Fazendo História works together with these children on their overall development and mental health. Children books are used as an important facilitator in communication with these children.In my role, I supervised the 4 core programs of the organization and also the financial administration. In addition, I managed general projects, such as fund raising and streamlining the internal organization, and I advised on new initiatives. Lastly, I worked directly with 2 children in a shelter to preserve their life stories in an album.

World Vision is a humanitarian organization, dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities to reach their full potential by addressing the causes of poverty and injustice.In my role, I screened Brazilian and international fund raising opportunities, I improved the internal system of local projects that required funding, and I designed projects that met funding requirements of potential partners and subsequently submitted funding proposals.
