As an expert consultant in biomechanics, my deep understanding of the human body, tissue material properties, injury tolerances and prevention provides value to projects about traffic safety, medical devices, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for workers and sport safety. My customers range from small start-ups to large established corporations. I solve small problems as well as take on long-term research projects, all based on the needs of the customer. A few examples of previous project results are CAE tools that represent the human body for optimization of medical devises, virtual and laboratory test methods for PPE certification, state-of-the-art knowledge as input to business strategies, review of injury epidemiology, and personnel educated in biomechanics. A few of my recent publications are listed here on LinkedIn in section Publications, for a more complete list see the links below.Tools that I use in my daily work encompass finite element codes for structural analysis of the human response in accidents (e.g. ANSYS LS-Dyna), programming codes for analysis (e.g. MATLAB), and slide presentations for transparent and pedagogic communication of results and knowledge, to name a few.

I held a professorship in Computational Impact Biomechanics. My research focus was human body models for automotive crash simulations, with the aim to understand injury causation mechanisms, predict injury onset and evaluate safety systems. I was responsible for establishing and led the research group on human body modelling at the SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Center, in close collaboration with the industrial partners Autoliv Research and Volvo Cars. Our projects resulted in numerous scientific publications, conference presentations, and development of three human body models (HBMs): • The SAFER HBM was improved regarding tissue level injury predictions and the world’s first full-body finite element model with active muscles.• The Open-Source ViVA HBM represented an average sized female, the first of its kind in the world of average sized male crash test dummies and HBMs, and later evolved to open access HBM for virtual testing (see link below). • A child multibody model with active muscles properties to simulate kinematics in pre-crash events.During my time at Chalmers, I supervised seven Ph.D. students and four post-docs, in addition to numerous bachelor and master students. I taught and developed several courses on impact biomechanics, finite element methods and solid mechanics, ranging from graduate to post-graduate level. During 2010 to 2014, I was Head of the Division of Vehicle Safety at the Department of Applied Mechanics, and part of the Department's management team. My responsibilities included budget and economy, work environment, salary and career development of employees, and strategies for the Division.

I worked with support, consultancy and sales of the finite element software LS-DYNA and was responsible for arranging the Nordic LS-DYNA User’s Conference. My projects were mainly within the fields of biomechanics, automotive engineering and crash safety, and road side safety (performing virtual certification of road barriers).

I performed research on neck injuries with virtual simulations, dynamic finite element analysis using LS-DYNA, and continued to improve the neck models that I developed as part of my Ph.D.-project. An exemplar project that I worked on was studying neck injury risks connected to the use of night vision googles among helicopter pilots. Pedagogic activities encompassed course development and teaching in the undergraduate course Biomechanics and Impact as well as a graduate course on Dynamic finite element methods, and supervision of three Ph.D. students and several master thesis projects.
