In my role, I independently design and lead my research project focusing on the metabolomics-guided discovery of novel small molecule drugs. My tasks include:- Targeted and untargeted LC-MS/MS method development for the analysis of bacterial and eukaryotic samples- Establishment of metabolomics data processing and analysis workflows aiming to discover novel molecules- Integration and interpretation of metabolomics data with phenotypic antimicrobial activity screening and sequencing data- Set up and lead internal collaborative projects and collaborations with academic partners- Supervision and mentoring of two one-year M.Sc. interns- As metabolomics expert, consulting in various exploratory projects (internal, and collaborative with academia or external service providers)

PhD thesis: intestinal metabolism in diferentially colonized miceGut microbiota projects:- Characterization of intestinal metabolism in wild-type, germ-free, and specifically colonized mice using metabolomics and sequencing approaches- Investigate the effect of community composition, specific location within the gut and nutrition on intestinal metabolism- Study of colonization resistance in wild-type mice challenged with a variety of pathogensMass-spectrometry based metabolomics:- Development and continuous improvement of a high-throughput LC-MS method for the analysis of complex gut samples, including sample preparation, data analysis, and interpretation- Maintenance of LC systemsTransferrable skills:- Leading collaborative projects with a US lab (NIH grant), a Swiss immunology research lab, and a research group at Biosynthia (Denmark)- Presentation of scientific results at international conferences (talks and posters)- Design and supervision of M.Sc. student projects
