Hello, my name is Karina Riscos and I am Mapleton Public School's District Translator and Interpreter. I am also the Executive Administrative Assistant for our School and Community Engagement (Communications) department, which means I get to work with all 20 of our amazing schools and support our Spanish-speaking families. I help bridge the gap between English and Spanish, making sure every Mapleton family gets the most accurate and up-to-date information through both written translation and spoken interpretation. I love celebrating our students and work closely with my team to highlight the amazing accomplishments they achieve! I have been working in school districts since I was 15, starting in my home state of Illinois, first as a volunteer, then an after-school program teacher, and eventually making my way in and out of the classroom. My love of history and language has also led me to work for various Chicagoland museums, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, and, during the pandemic, I took it upon myself to volunteer my services to museums looking to translate their exhibits into Spanish. I am a Certified Translation Professional and a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpretation.
