Over her dual academic and industry career Karin held a tenured Computer Science Professor position at PUC-Rio, where she lead joint industry projects with NASA, HP, IBM and Microsoft. She later joined EMC and served as the head of the Brazil R&D Center, where she oversaw the filing of a total of 52 invention disclosures to the US Patent Office. Karin is the author of over one hundred combined patents (Microsoft, EMC, and Dell), books, and scientific papers. She served as the Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Rio Tinto until September 23.She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Engie Brazil Energia, advisory Board for Skycatch, and on the Technical Advisory Board for the Research Data Alliance. As a proud Latina, she serves on the Advisory Boards of COPPEAD, the business school of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and project SUPER, a joint Samsung - Federal University of the Amazon to support higher education among vulnerable populations. In the past she served in ACM Practitioner's Board and as a cloud/IoT expert to the European Commission, and the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology.
