I am a Ugandan professional with more than ten years’ experience working with human rights organizations across Africa. Seven of these years have been in the position and role of HRD holistic protection, safety and security management at DefendDefenders. I have excellently delivered over 150 tailor-made trainings and consultancies in safety and security management and conducted risk assessment for individual human rights defenders (HRDs) and organizations across Africa and South-East Asia. Together with colleagues, I have published a contextualized security manual for African HRDs entitled “STAND UP”, along with several other short publications and tools. I have developed safety and security guidelines for human rights organizations in Africa, and guidelines for specific situations and thematic areas of HRD work. I have successfully led work teams and managed sensitive projects including for feminist and LGBTQI movements. Some of my most recent safety and security management consultancies have been with Strategic Issues Research Council (2022); American Bar Association partners in Zambia (2021), Uganda and Tanzania (2020); DGF Kampala (2021); Global Rights Alert (2020); and Chapter Four Uganda (2020), all organizations working on significantly sensitive issues around civil rights and liberties. I bring with me a robust knowledge of the African human rights working context and impeccable skills in training, planning and communication for proper safety and security management.
