About Kari Sliva

I have served the community in the nonprofit, business and government sectors in leadership, communication, and development roles for the majority of my career. Presently I serve as Marketing & Communications Specialist for the city of El Mirage,AZ, responsible for heightening awareness of city initiatives and community engagement. At the city of Glendale I served in an administrative role as Chief of Staff for the Office of the Mayor. I was a Public Information Officer, and managed the overall outreach and communication of the office. Collaboration with departments was key, as well as, constituent services, media management, organizing special events, program management, public official statements, talking points, weekly e-newsletter, public policy, producing a Business of the Week video feature, speech writing, digital content, web site and social media. At the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, I led communications and special event initiatives, responsible for signature events, key accounts, collateral materials, web site updates and brand development. At the Challenger Space Center I collaborated with our board of directors and team members to implement a strategic plan and install best practices that would better serve our students, donors, and customers while engaging new audiences. At the Green Bay Visitor & Convention Bureau I led the organization through accreditation and was the tourism industry spokesperson. As a multi-media journalist, I have also worked in a newsroom, and I am a published writer, digital content editor and videographer. I’ve served in a consultative role with elected officials and many stakeholders over the course of my career, receiving a Commendation for Service from the Brown County Board of Supervisors in Wisconsin and Western Iowa Tourism Region Volunteer of the Year Award. I was honored to receive an appreciation award from the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Military & Veterans Affairs Committee. I strongly believe one can best serve by being approachable and communicative, focused on the goals and tasks at hand, open to new ideas and committed to lifelong learning. I've continued my education, working towards a masters degree, and recently completed digital content certifications from HubSpot Academy.
