Karl Blanke’s practice focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation matters in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. Blanke represents individual and corporate clients in both state and federal court. He has represented clients in felony jury trials ranging from banking crimes to murder. He has participated in the representation of a sitting congressman in a Department of Justice investigation and has represented a major public corporation during the course of a multi-year criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. Mr. Blanke has also represented clients in civil litigation involving claims of securities fraud, defamation, and breach of contract. Mr. Blanke’s practice also includes national security and military law matters. Mr. Blanke’s pro bono work has included the representation of the families of Marines recovering from traumatic brain injury and veterans appealing their disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Blanke served on active duty with the United States Marine Corps. He deployed to Iraq twice as a platoon commander and company executive officer with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.Mr. Blanke received his B.A. in Letters summa cum laude from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. He received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2007. While in law school, he served as executive editor for the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy. Mr. Blanke is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia bars.
