    I started volunteering with FSNE to help with the Covid-19 response, in May 2020, initially based at the warehouse in Westerhope, and went on to complete over 200 hours of volunteering in three roles, following the whole process from picking and packing in the warehouse to delivering the surplus to Community Food Members in Newcastle, Gateshead, North & South Tyneside, Northumberland and County Durham.My time was split between the warehouse in Westerhope, in the West End of Newcastle upon Tyne, and locations across the North East across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland and County Durham.Assisting with deliveries to Community Food Members across the North East including the loading of the van, picking the frozen products and completing maintenance checks prior to setting out, assisting with navigation, unloading the deliveries and interacting with the customers on the route, filling in the dispatch note upon arrival to each drop and then emptying and cleaning the van at the warehouse. Tidying and sweeping the warehouse, ensuring a safe working environment. Cleaning around the building.Picking and packing surplus food in a team and independently within the warehouse and chiller to be delivered to, or collected by, charities and community groups. This included locating and checking use by dates, filling in the picking list and then assembling orders into trays and crates and onto platform and into cages to be stored ready to be delivered.

    Environmental Records - digitisation, extraction and reformatting of data, a hugely important task which converted existing wildlife information from various sources into a standard format in Microsoft Excel, allowing it to be used for conservation purposes. Maintenance - assisted with the refurbishment of the Stephenson Steam Railway. Cleaning and clearing and then painting the museum. Also regular cleaning of the museum and litter picking around the museum site.Curatorial - put together information to create new labels for the Saltwell Gallery at the Shipley Art Gallery. Started to organise filing cabinets of art history files.Outreach/Community Participation - delivered TWAM’s mission statement by volunteering with harder to reach groups. Promoted the Hatton Gallery off-site while it was closed for refurbishment, in various community locations. Engaged children and young people and older people with the venues and the collections, assisting with art workshops in community settings.Archaeology - labelled and boxed up bulk finds and put together databases.Development - successful Individual Giving fundraising at various events across different venues. Passionately involved with efforts to rescue Willington Wagonway timbers. Events and Communications - in behind-the-scenes and public-facing roles, including putting up decorations,Exhibitions - Stewarding a number of exhibitions including the popular 'All the Fun of the Fair' and 'Dippy on Tour' exhibitions in Newcastle.
