Restoke is a socially driven performance company. Based in Staffordshire we combine dance, music and visual art to produce works that breathe new life into forgotten spaces.In March 2013, we staged 'Palace' at Bethesda Chapel in Hanley, Stoke on Trent. Once dubbed 'Cathedral of The Potteries', the building fell into disuse around 20 years ago and was subsequently heavily vandalised. Once dubbed 'Cathedral of The Potteries', the building fell into disuse around 20 years ago and was subsequently heavily vandalised. Still undergoing the 3rd phase of renovations, the 'rough-diamond' aesthetic lent itself perfectly to telling the story of an individual affected by homelessness.Performed by a cast of over 40 dancers and singers, amid stunning visual projections, Palace presented a real technical challenge. I designed and rigged the sound for the project, which covered many performance spaces on 2 levels around the building. With 20 vocalists, piano, pipe organ and an actor, the sound reinforcement included individual mics for all singers, 6 independant monitor feeds with click tracks and cues from the Musical Director.Palace was seen by around 1000 audience members over its 4 day run, and received huge critical acclaim.Spring 2014 saw the company stage a haunting production in the beautiful disused Victorian swimming baths in Tunstall, Stoke on Trent. With recordings of reminiscences from local residents, the pool became a spectacular canvas for interactive animations set to live original music and dance.For this critically acclaimed production, I again designed and rigged a bespoke sound system across 3 zones of the building, including individual monitor feeds for the performers. The 45 Sound bring to life the pure sound of the early 60's Mod culture, through to the later Northern Soul scene - all played completely live and true to the original 7 inch vinyls. They're an 8 piece band playing over 30 original tracks with a pure Rhythm & Blues feel, topped with lots of Soul. Although relatively unheard-of in the UK, they have an army of loyal fans worldwide, particularly on the Continent.
