Pierce's Disease (PD) Resistance Breeding Program in Dr. Andrew Walker’s Lab• Oversee five different research projects directly related to PD, where we have found new sources of resistance that will be implemented in our breeding program. • Construct genetic maps and identify QTLs for PD resistance in a population of 339 individuals where we found a possible minor locus. • Design and co-lead field and greenhouse trials consisting of transplanting, harvesting, and sample and data collection, in more than 10 projects in breeding for disease resistance, drought and salt tolerance.• Wrote 11 grant proposals where we were granted $174,500 for tuition, fees, stipends, and experiments. • Supervise 8 assistants in the greenhouse and laboratory obtaining an optimization of our testing trials. • Taught 5 Viticultural Practices courses to 300+ undergraduate and graduate students, instructing them in ampelography, grapevine physiology, and pests and diseases.

• Managed a bioinformatics project in Tucson, AZ during a summer internship at the Arizona Genomics Institute in Dr. Rod Wing's Laboratory. • Led a wild rice comparative genomics analysis to find disease resistance genes on chromosome 11 where we found 212 disease resistance genes. • Ran statistical analyses using Unix Commands. • Presented the study findings as well as reported them in 3 scientific presentations and posters in Tucson, AZ, Juarez, MX and Chihuahua, MX.
