This process could be just a few emails being exchanged or a series of meetings and conference calls to gather enough information to ascertain the overall value and risk to the company. In the end, understanding both party’s intent and end goals are just as important as executing the correct agreement and results in a beneficial relationship for all.My influence can be felt across the company as I review and negotiate contracts with clients ranging from R&D, IT, Corporate Communications, Marketing, Facilities, Human Resources, Global Medical Affairs and Commercial Operations just to name a few. Over time I have built relationships with company leaders who continually come to me for advice on how to approach situations that involve their partners. They in turn have told others about my abilities and sound approach in handling complex and often delicate situations. While turnover inevitably happens in the company, department leaders are quite confident knowing that I will be able to assist anyone new to their working group. This type of relationship is also evident among the various suppliers that we engage on a frequent basis. I will often become an important link that the supplier has to the company in answering their questions about status of contracts, invoices, extensions of their project terms and the like. In many ways, I’m a sounding board for advice to my clients who are often not at all experienced in handling day-to-day business transactions with external parties. My goal is for them to focus on what matters most, the science.
