I am an experienced senior research biologist with expertise in cell biology, microscopy, molecular biology, and biochemistry who applies these skills to discovering new therapies for patients with neurodegenerative disease.My recent work includes research on C9orf72 ALS (motor neuron disease, Lou Gehrig's disease) using ips-derived patient neurons. I led a discovery biology effort at Biogen to identify novel Nrf2 activators. With the acquisition of Reata Pharmaceuticals, Biogen now has Nrf2 activator Sklyclarys (omaveloxolone) treating patients with Friedreich's Ataxia. Previously, I contributed to the discovery of an NMDA antagonist and a gamma secretase inhibitor that went to the clinic.My specialties include in vitro cell biology: High-content fluorescence digital microscopy, live cell imaging & ion flux, western blot, ELISA development, ips cell models, tissue culture, immunocytochemistry, EM, receptor binding, enzyme activity assay, assay development, HPLC; synaptosome, brain slice and other tissue preparations.
