I have authored a number of successful novels for Tor (a subsidiary of St. Martin's Press), including Ventus, Permanence, Lady of Mazes, and the five books of the Virga series. My books have been translated into eight languages at last count. In 2003 I won the Canadian Aurora Award for best English work (long-form) for my novel Permanence. My novella "To Hie from Far Cilenia" was nominated for a science fiction's top honour, the Hugo Award, in 2009. My novel Lockstep was serialized in Analog magazine in 2013-2014, and won Canada's Aurora Award for Best Science Fiction Novel of 2014. Other recent projects include the online Virga comic, available at http://virgacomic.com. My most recent works are The Million (Tor.com, 2019), and Stealing Worlds (Tor Books, 2019).

This volunteer position comes with a number of responsibilities, including: ensuring that Canada contributes to data-gathering and analysis around the progress of the UN's Millennium Development Goals; analysis of trends, disruptions and weak signals of change within the Canadian context, for social, technological, economic, environmental and political systems. Engagement with educational, private, public and nonprofit institutions to create a robust Canadian foresight network that can assist both government and the private sector in strategic and long-term planning.My co-chair is Eric Noel.
