About Karl Wilding

Trying to work out what’s going on in civil society and what organisations should do next. Using insights for teaching, research and consulting. Currently working on several projects, including 'moonshot philanthropy' (University of Kent) and improving nonprofit sector data (MyCake). I’ve spent much of my career trying to work out what’s going on in and around civil society, and using that insight to change policy and practice. Much of that time was at NCVO, I’m also a trustee of Communities 1st (which supports charities and volunteering in Hertfordshire) and Creating the Future, a US nonprofit.Contact: karl@karlwilding.org.uk

Communities 1st is the CVS and Volunteer Centre for Hertsmere and St Albans, with offices and venues in both districts. We're the result of a merger between the two organisations - as trustees, we took the decision to merge because together we think that we can make a bigger difference. I'm proud to be a trustee - and I'm also grateful. It's a brilliant way to understand what the concerns of small charities and community groups are.
