I collaborate with a group of diplomatic scientists at UNAL to advance research, advocate for policies, and engage stakeholders globally in promoting sustainability and biodiversity conservation. Additionally, this group contributes to improving practices that empower students and professors to effectively transmit knowledge, interact with different stakeholders, and achieve success in their academic pursuits.

CINAT belongs to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences - Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNC), which focuses on production and sustainable use of terrestrial arthropods, as alternative nutrient sources for animal feed and human food.

Insectos por la paz es una iniciativa que consiste en implementar sistemas de producción de insectos en comunidades rurales de exguerilleros y comunidades que han sido afectadas por el conflicto armado en Colombia. Los insectos son una alternativa de producción de proteína animal que puede disminuir los costos de la alimentación animal tradicional, no requiere de altas inversiones y pueden funcionar como agricultura circular. Los insectos son alternativas promisorias sostenibles, desde el punto de vista social, ambiental y económico, que pueden ser implementadas en comunidades rurales vulnerables. Insectos por la Paz es una iniciativa sin ánimo de lucro que ha contado con el apoyo de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y Wagenigen University & Research – WUR (Países Bajos), EntoPro y otras instituciones nacionales e internacional. Insects for Peace is an initiative aimed at implementing insect production systems in rural communities of former guerrillas and communities that have been affected by the armed conflict in Colombia. Insects are an alternative source of animal protein production that can reduce the costs of traditional animal feed, do not require high investments, and can function as circular agriculture. Insects are promising sustainable alternatives from a social, environmental, and economic perspective that can be implemented in vulnerable rural communities. Insects for Peace is a non-profit initiative that has received support from the National University of Colombia, Wagenigen University & Research (Netherlands), EntoPro, and other national and international institutions.

Visiting Researcher at the LE STUDIUM Interdisciplinary Forum, based at the Insect Biology Research Institute (IRBI), University of Tours / CNRS. The project, “Multidimensional Assessment of the Potential of Insects for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems,” explores the use of insects to address global challenges in food security and environmental sustainability. This role involves interdisciplinary collaboration between Colombia and France, focusing on developing innovative, sustainable solutions within the bioeconomy.

EntoPro is a Spin-Off company of Universidad Nacional de Colombia. We design, formulate and implement technological systems for arthropods ‘production, emphasis on the Insecta class, adjusted to different niches for the development of new protein alternatives, co-products and added values, with a view to achieving environmental, social and economic sustainability.

WUR Laboratory of Entomology is currently working with a number of parties, including the University of Groningen, two research institutes (Wageningen Livestock Research and RIKILT), a University of Applied Sciences (HAS Den Bosch), private industry (Protix, Bühler, Amusca, Rabobank, GD Animal Health), public organisations (Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), and Dutch Food and Safety Authority (NVWA)), and societal organisations (Dierenbescherming, an animal protection organisation, and ZLTO, a major farmers union), on a research programme established under the National Science Agenda (January 2020–December 2023) that focuses on insects as feed for poultry: ‘Insects as sustainable feed for a circular economy: interdisciplinary approach to value chain development (INSECTFEED)’. INSECTFEED works with an interdisciplinary research approach (ethics, economics, biology) and focusses on three main research areas: (1) investigate insect production, especially focussing on insect health, insect welfare and the intrinsic value of insects, (2) investigate health and welfare of livestock that is fed with insects and (3) conduct an economic analysis of the value chain development and in two fly species that are currently produced as feed for livestock: the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens) and the House Fly (HF) (Musca domestica).

Creation, implementation and consolidation of the wildlife rehabilitation center (Centro de Rehabilitación del Oriente de Caldas - CRFSOC) in agreement with the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Caldas - Corpocaldas and the Asociación de Veterinarios de Vida Silvestre - VVS.
