Veterinarian with experience in both in situ and ex situ wildlife teaching, research, and management. Skilled in wildlife handling, conservation, production, and sustainable use programs. I have a strong background in interdisciplinary fieldwork and wildlife consulting for government institutions and NGOs. I am the founder of the Terrestrial Arthropod Research Center (CINAT) and its spin-off company, EntoPro, at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL). Currently, working as an Associate Professor and coordinator of the Insects for Peace initiative, which promotes social transformation and sustainability in agrifood systems through insects. Additionally, part of the diplomatic scientists group at UNAL, collaborating on international cooperation, while also coordinating the Insect Network within the Latin American Association of Animal Production (ALPA).My expertise lies in integrating broad approaches like bioeconomy, wildlife management, Ecosystem Services, and One Health into sustainable strategies, with a focus on insects in agrifood systems. I develop integral strategies that bring together multiple disciplines and interdisciplinary collaboration to address global sustainability challenges. With extensive experience in the Global South and through international collaborations, I´m constantly exploring opportunities to apply my knowledge in global research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives that deliver impactful, innovative, and transformative solutions.

Los insectos son alternativas promisorias sostenibles, desde el punto de vista social, ambiental y económico, que pueden ser implementadas en comunidades rurales vulnerables. Insectos por la Paz es una iniciativa sin ánimo de lucro que ha contado con el apoyo de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y Wagenigen University & Research – WUR (Países Bajos), EntoPro y otras instituciones nacionales e internacional. Insects for Peace is an initiative aimed at implementing insect production systems in rural communities of former guerrillas and communities that have been affected by the armed conflict in Colombia. Insects are an alternative source of animal protein production that can reduce the costs of traditional animal feed, do not require high investments, and can function as circular agriculture. Insects are promising sustainable alternatives from a social, environmental, and economic perspective that can be implemented in vulnerable rural communities. Insects for Peace is a non-profit initiative that has received support from the National University of Colombia, Wagenigen University & Research (Netherlands), EntoPro, and other national and international institutions.
