Karol Perez (she/they) is a designer based in North Carolina creating dynamic print and digital media for brands, organizations, and institutions. They received their BFA from Appalachian State University, and have worked in print production, freelance design, and most recently at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. As a Mexican artist living and working in the United States, Karol’s work is deeply influenced by revolutionary Latin American movements and the designs that fueled them. She is particularly inspired by Chicano posters, as well as other design movements including brutalism and anti-design. Her designs play with texture, legibility, and movement, examining notions of identity, culture, and decolonization. Through warping and scanning, appropriation of found media, and bilingual translation, their designs are equally dizzying and compelling. Karol aspires to work with and for BIPOC and multilingual design spaces, and aims to create graphics that are both subversive and revolutionary.
