Specialist Library Technician, Print, Description Services
CurrentDiscovery and delivery services are dependent on efficient and thoughtful bibliographic and description services. Working in the Print or E-content teams you will play a key role in ensuring delivery of high quality description services enabling streamlined access to State Library’s content. This role will focus on the description for all collections (physical, electronic, published and unpublished) of Content Development branch and Regional Access and Public Libraries branch. Duties and responsibilities include:• Providing a high quality resource discovery service, including creation and maintenance of acquisition records and receipt and processing of library material (physical and digital).• Performing copy cataloguing and description for published, electronic and digitised collections, in accordance with current international, national and local standards, in a range of subject areas and formats.• Undertaking SFX/MetaLib maintenance, actioning monthly updates.• Describing and processing of digital collections including digitised and born digital items. • Maintaining up to date procedures and workflows.• Undertaking database maintenance ensuring errors are amended and, retrospective record updates and upgrades are applied.• Maintaining awareness and understanding of current trends in resource discovery and library based information services, evaluating and recommending new technologies, products and services for use within the State Library.• Liaising with library suppliers, publishers and clients of Description Services to ensure operational efficiency• Working effectively as a member of the Discovery team in: delivering the team’s operational, business and strategic activities; demonstrating leadership in an environment of change and uncertainty; and, contributing to a positive and productive work environment which may require undertaking a diverse range of tasks and providing support across the Library.
