My major contributions in this role include:- Threat Modelling and Security Architecture Reviews for AWS projects: Worked on evaluating the infrastructure security posture for various AWS deployments by employing standard threat modelling practices and referencing CIS Security Benchmarks. Provided security gap analysis reports highlighting findings and suitable controls. - Security hardening for AWS deployments: Worked on deploying security controls for various AWS deployments to harden their security posture. This included deploying and configuring AWS WAF, S3 bucket policies, AWS Network Firewall, ACM PCA certificates, AWS Config, AWS Inspector and AWS CloudFront signed URLs. - Proof of Concept reviews for cloud security tools: Worked on evaluating Palo Alto Network's Prisma Cloud (container and runtime security solution) for AWS deployments. Deployed the product on a test EKS cluster and conducted a thorough analysis of all the use cases. Also assisted in analyzing Palo Alto Network's Next Generation Firewall for AWS. Evaluated their ingress/egress traffic decryption and analysis capabilities.

I worked in the application security architecture domain, with a special focus on public cloud security. Significant projects that I have worked on include:- AWS Credential Manager: Designed and deployed APIs that allow authenticated and authorized users to retrieve time bound credentials to AWS IAM roles.- Real Time Payments Prototype on AWS: Architected, deployed and maintained solutions to protect data and secrets on the public cloud. Worked with AWS KMS CMKs and Hashicorp Vault.- OPSWAT Metadefender: Managed a local deployment of the OPSWAT Metadefender malware analysis and file sanitization product. - Secure Data Delivery using Apache NiFi: Designed and deployed a data scrubbing solution based on Apache NiFi to facilitate secure transfer of sensitive (PAN/PII) data between production and non-production systems.- Runtime Application Security Plugin: Developed, tested and productionized a java based runtime application security plugin that had capabilities to intercept and flag insecure method invocations.

I primarily worked on developing a Web Application Firewall coverage analysis tool that provided capabilities to query and visualize the existing rules for various public facing endpoints. This helped bring down security vulnerability risk triage time by almost 50%.I also helped develop an in house Open Source Vulnerability alerting system which eliminated vendor dependence and cost.

Worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Database System Applications undergraduate course. In this course students are expected to create from scratch a fully functional web application that makes heavy use of persistent data for querying and report generation. My responsibilities as a TA broadly involve clarifying questions brought up by students regarding the course material or general course logistics, coming up with evaluation rubrics and grading project demos and exams.This role has given me the opportunity to work as a team with my fellow TAs and professor to enhance the learning experience of a diverse group of students and in parallel to brush up on and hone my database and web application development skills.

I got the unique opportunity to work with the database engineering team as part of this internship. I was able to successfully deliver two projects within this span.As part of the first I developed a generic REST client in java, that could be used to interact with any web based API exposed within the firm. This helped reduce the team’s dependency on legacy SOAP based services and embrace the benefits which the REST architecture provided. This was a significant learning experience for me as I was new to both Java and the concept of web based services.The second involved performing network analysis in order to ascertain how much of load different data servers had to handle and allocate compute resources accordingly. I primarily worked on coming up with a proof of concept for the tool that would best suit this purpose. This involved researching and learning about various packet capture C libraries and Linux utilities.
