About Karthikeyan Kurinjivanan

With a Master's degree in Computational Sciences in Engineering, I have extensive knowledge in numerical simulation, scientific computing and programming for scientific applications. My academic projects have given me deep insights into computational fluid dynamics (CFD), especially in the areas of conjugate heat transfer, particle-laden flows and gradient-based optimization techniques for multidisciplinary design and topology optimization using finite element methods (FEM). Furthermore, I have experience in creating geometries with CAD software, mesh generation for CFD applications, performing parameter studies, simulations on high performance clusters and validation of numerical results against analytical or experimental data. I have particular strengths in programming numerical methods and algorithms, especially with MATLAB, Python and C/C++. I am deeply passionate about solving challenges in the aerospace and automotive sector.

    C | ParaView | Python | MATLABThe aim of this project was to implement a pressure gradient to mimic the presence of a bottom wall, while simulating hindered settling of particles in a quiescent fluid within a triply periodic computational domain.The implementation involved understanding the In-house C based code of the Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, to suitably implement the numerical correction to mimic the presence of the bottom wall and thereby perform simulations to validate the implementation and perform additional simulations to study the effects of cohesion between the particles in hindered settling.

The results of these simulations gave the total heat transfer rate as well as the pressure drop during the flow.

    Institute for Aircraft Design and Lightweight Structures, TU Braunschweig.The objective of this work was aimed at testing the relationship between mesh sensitivity and CPU time for 2D and 3D incompressible flow test cases and studying the adjoint calculation speed and implementation of the DAFOAM (Discrete Adjoint with OpenFOAM for High-fidelity Gradient-based Optimization) solver, which was an Open-Source project, for accuracy.The Code was edited using C and Python for this study and GMSH software was used for the Meshing. The Flow test cases were run using the Docker platform provided by the DAFOAM example libraries and the test cases were run using OpenFOAM and visualizations were done using ParaView.
