Sometimes in life the path you first envisioned for yourself doesn't turn out the way you thought it would and that's okay. The key is to truly find your passion and to learn from every setback or detour in your journey. When I first started this journey, my plan was to be an OBGYN specializing in high risk births. Everything I did and everything I studied was focused and geared toward this goal. Then college hit and my love and passion for this field ceased and for a moment I felt lost. However, I was still determined to see this goal through, until the end of my sophomore year when misery and unhappiness began to creep in. That summer, I had to take a real hard look at myself. Would I continue in a field that I no longer loved, or would I have the courage to jump ship and say goodbye to a dream I had for 12yrs? With my eyes closed, I jumped and landed in the field of psychology. Now, many people thought I was crazy to change my major for 2 main reasons: 1. It was my junior year; and 2. I had a good gpa. But I was unhappy and knew eventually that would cause my grades to suffer. See, I couldn’t allow people’s definition of success or fear of throwing away time stop me. For me to be happy and truly excel I had to move in this direction. In this new field, I’ve been able to learn, grow, and meet exceptional people. I’ve been forced out of my comfort zone, made uncomfortable, and challenged in the way I think and perceive things. In this space, I’ve learned to create not only a safe space for me but a safe space for others. The field of psychology has opened many different doors for me. From working with adults, adolescents and children living with mental disorders, adolescents finding their footing on the road to recover from addiction and being a bridge where talent and opportunity meet. I have experience and knowledge in Proposal Management, Project Coordination, Employee Relations, Benefit & Compensation Administration, Staffing, Training, College Preparedness, and Career Coaching.
