BRWA established on 2010 by The Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (AMAN), Participatory Mapping Network (JKPP), Forest Watch Indonesia (FWI), Sawit Watch and the Consortium for Supporting Community-based Forest Management Systems (KpSHK). The purpose of BRWA is to become the information agency of the ancestral domain through documenting the existence of Indigenous Peoples and their ancestral domain. The information then will communicated to the stakeholders, especially to the government as one of their reference source to influence their policy related to the land, forest and indigenous peoples towards the recognition of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Indonesia. To obtain that purpose, BRWA has set up the Ancestral Domain Registration System (Sistem Informasi Wilayah Adat - SIWA). The system is a series process from registration, verification, and awarding the ancestral domain certificate as the evidence of the existence and the ancestral domain management of indigenous peoples. The registration can conduct in two way, first through online in our website www.brwa.or.id and second via offline through our local administration in several place in Indonesia that has link to the participatory mapping acceleration unit of AMAN (UKP3-AMAN) and participatory mapping service node of JKPP (SLPP-JKPP) or through the local NGO who work closely with the community. The things that should consider in the process of registration and verification (RV) is the information of the history of the Indigenous Peoples, the Indigenous Institution, the Adat law or the customary law including the information on how their manage their ancestral domain, and the Indigenous Peoples agreement to register their ancestral domain to BRWA.
