About Kasper Gram Bilde

Industrial PhD student specialising in fluid mechanics, turbulence and numerical modelling. I am a person that likes new challenges and I thrive in new projects where I can apply my interest and obtained skills. Throughout my Master’s thesis and PhD studies I have become good at working solo in an efficient way, but I thrive even better when I am a part of a team where I can contribute with my knowledge and skills.I started my industrial PhD by January 2020 at Alfa Laval with the focus on solving the issues of cleaning the water coming from a maritime scrubber. The water from the scrubber contains micron-sized particles in the form of soot/black carbon, oil and other pollutants. These pollutants must be removed from the water before being discharged into the Oceans. Since space is sparse onboard a vessel, a high-speed separator is utilised which exerts a force of ~10,000G to the particles, resulting in a fast sedimentation of the particles. My focus is to develop a virtual/numerical model to produce the best-suited particles for sedimentation in the high-speed separator.For this I have implemented the open-source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, OpenFOAM, in the R&D department in Aalborg. The software has been set up to operate on a high-performance cloud (HPC) solution in Microsoft Azure. This solution has proven to be very flexible and cost-effective. Moreover, I have implemented a code revision system for in-house developed code (Matlab, Python, C++, OpenFOAM, etc) using Git which is implemented into Microsoft Devops.I have a master’s degree in thermal energy systems, where I have been working with numerical modelling, heat transfer, grain drying, dynamical systems and simulating the start-up of a biomass boiler driven by natural circulation.
