Researched Enhanced Oil Recovery using tailored nanoparticles synthesized via Continuous-Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) and enhance tensile strength of polyurethane with the addition of fillers.I was employed on a Sprint project scholarship from the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Center (DHRTC) and the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University. My research was focused on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) where I developed nanoparticles that could be used to increase the efficiency of oil extraction by optimizing pumping process. The project consisted of several goals and I achieved the following:• Designed the right nanoparticles made up of poly (styrene-co-acrylic acid)• Designing and constructing a flow set up for continuous production (CSTR) of the nanoparticles, thereby creating a production optimization that allowed an upscaling of production from product quantities from grams to kilogramsIn addition, I worked with polyurethane and how to enhance tensile strength with the addition of fillers. During my part of the project, I contributed the following:• Optimizing the monomer mixing process and the most efficient way to add the filler• In addition, chose a filler that resulted in the highest tensile strength.• Reproducibility – how to treat the polymers and fillers so the results could be replicated.Furthermore, I assisted in the infusion of a range of new epoxies and glass fiber, for use in new wind turbine blades, to make them degradable after retirement.
