I co-taught Chemistry for Living, a non-majors course, during the Fall of 2018. My colleague and I taught every other chapter. We implemented discussion quiz days which helped students connect the Chemistry concepts they were learning with current event or real world situations they may someday encounter. I hired and prepared college students to serve as hosts and tour guides for visitors and external groups, and did so myself as well. I developed a tour curriculum for different group types: prospective students, current students in Environmental classes, and also special outside groups with specific interests. I've worked with our School of Natural and Applied Sciences to form collaborative learning opportunities with our local elementary school. The main objective was to bring elementary students in and expose them to STEM fields and activities, but also to give our college students in these learning experiences.I was also appointed the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Safety Officer for Academics and have been serving in this role since 2013. I started a Safety Committee for our building, with representatives from most departments. We've accomplished a number of projects, such as getting a regular rotation of eyewash and shower testing, installation of first aid kits accessible to all on each floor, developing a TA training class prior to the first day of lab, and instituting a Laboratory Orientation checklist to be performed one-on-one with each student worker and professor/instructor. As the CHO I also ensure full compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, submitting yearly state reports (Tier II) and participate in EPA peer audits every 2-3 years. Show less

I taught General Biology as an adjunct instructor for the 2011-2012 academic year. I covered the lecture portion of the course, preparing lectures, exams, homework and writing assignments and grading them all as well. I definitely dealt with a few interesting situations, from a chronic no-show student, to one who'd lost a parent recently and needed a little grace and encouragement. Interacting with college students is both challenging and rewarding!

Toward the end of my time at DSI I worked in the Quality office. I evaluated charts, paperwork and recordings for accuracy and completeness. I called hospitals and other medical facilities requesting corrections and additional records when necessary to complete the chart. I promoted tissue donation at informational booths at health fairs all over the northern Indiana region where I talked with people and answered questions about donation. I tried to attend most of the Focus on Health health fairs in the Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. Often these events involved collaborating with other organizations like IOPO and Lions Eye Bank. I also pursued, scheduled and led hands-on interactive educational presentations in regional middle and high school classrooms using human and animal specimens. In my Bereavement Coordinator role I wrote, coordinated and distributed all bereavement mailings to donor families on a scheduled basis, as well as assisted in the planning and hosting of our donor memorial service each year. I agreed to take this teaching position three days into Harrison's trimester due to another instructor quitting abruptly. I taught about the environment and how our human activities impact it, using lecturing and interactive classroom activities to engage a group of non-traditional students. I lectured, assigned and graded coursework and exams.

I worked independently and as part of a team doing site assessment and wetland delineation field work, mostly in preparation for site development. I learned how to edit and manipulate CAD drawings using AutoCAD, as well as draw simple diagrams. I wrote and sent many site investigations to the client and Indiana Dept. of Environmental Management.

Processed new policies, renewals, cancellations, and policy updates and changes. Printed cancellation letters, updated spreadsheets, databases, and monthly projects, and carried out office tasks.

I worked in the Hodgdon Herbarium at UNH as a grad student. I addressed herbarium inquiries, including questions from the local press about plant species. I routinely processed specimens, which involved freezing them (for pest control), and carefully mounted them so as to be added to our collection. I also supervised undergraduate student workers who helped pull and file specimens.

I taught the lab portion of Systematic Botany. I prepped for lab activities and instructed lab sections, evaluated of assignments including plant collections, and counseled students one-on-one.

Soil and groundwater sample collection and preparation, monitoring of groundwater wells with quarterly reporting, storm water runoff assessment and reporting, generated Initial Site Characterization Reports.
