Ever since I was a little kid, the understanding & exploration of the nature that surrounds us all has always been my passion. I still remember myself hustling around and getting my hands to anything that seemed intriguing. This passion carried me through my education as an Agronomist at the University of Thessaly. Through my university studies I discovered a field of study that got my attention, genetics and specifically the application of biotechnology in plant and food enhancement. I studied and implemented lab tests to research the expression of certain genes in plants through my diploma thesis, which is called “Expression of hpaA and hpaB transgenes in N. benthamiana plants in relation to abiotic stress tolerance”. Through my involvement in the lab processes, I found my way to an Erasmus+ placement in a top Plant Biotechnology Lab at the University of Padova. I am grateful for being able to work on this study field as an intern and discover the area of plant biotechnology more deeply and in detail. After finishing my studies at the University of Thessaly, I really wanted to expand my set of knowledge in food biotechnology, through a program that combines advanced theory with real-world practice. The Master of Science in Biotechnologies for Food Science that the University of Padova is offering was the perfect match for me. It provided me with the opportunity to get exposure between others to Traceability tools for Species Authentication, Advanced Technologies for the Agri-food Sector (Nanotechnologies, Proteomics, Metabolomics), Plant breeding, DNA, RNA and Protein Analysis, Applied Genomics, Food frauds Detection and Quantification etc.Through my Diploma Thesis with the title “Lactoferrin Content in bovine milk: Validation of Radial Immunodiffusion method and Predictive Ability of Mid-infrared spectroscopy”, I got the chance to get involved in a real case food biotechnology problem and enhance my statistical analysis skill set.As at this point I'm concluding my academic studies at the University of Padova, I'm more than eager to welcome chances that will let me work on hands-on projects through applying and developing my academic skills in Food and Plant Biotechnologies. The passion that I had when I was young remains intact. Sure, there are more things to learn, more challenges to take over and lots of opportunities to improve my skills, but this is exactly what I am seeking for and keeps me motivated!
