Principle Investigator: Martin Moore, PhDDefining Virulence Mechanisms of Respiratory Syncytial VirusMy research focuses on a BALB/c mouse model of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), specifically the causes of increased pathogenesis and mucus production and the role of the immune system in these processes. To model severe RSV infection, I use a recently isolated clinical strain called A2001/2-20, which results in increased disease severity, marked by mucus production, increased weight loss, and increased breathing effort. My research focuses on the following areas: 1) The role of the A2001/2-20 fusion (f) protein in mucus production and increased pathogenesis. 2) The role of neutrophils in mucus production during RSV infection.
