A unique, cross-college collaborative program aimed to protect public health by minimizing animal to human, environmental, and food borne infectious disease threats through innovative interdisciplinary research. A program of research excellence that is broad in scope encompassing the full range of relevant sciences from the laboratory bench to the community. We embrace the interdisciplinary nature of the program recognizing that breakthroughs will likely emerge at the interface of scientific disciplines. This program draws strength from both the diversity of academic programs that underlie it, as well as a unifying focus and direction related to public health preparedness and infectious diseases.

Freelance contract scientific and medical writer. Generating grant proposals and research projetcs. Writing and editing abstracts, white papers and proposal documents covering areas of immunology, virology, cellular and molecular biology.

Manage projects dealing with the development of products and capabilities utilized by global scientists in every facet of research, development and implementation. Extensive experience communicating with scientists to understand their problems and validate the solutions to solve those problems. Lead the New Product Development (NPD) program management function including strategic investment planning, resource planning, overall program time-lining, and development of processes in support of the group. Coordinate activities of NPD with program managers in Marketing, IT, and Editorial Operations to establish company-wide plans for new products. Analyze customer needs, development technical requirements and specified features for new product development at CAS. Has experience leading cross-divisional teams including requirements analysts and product developers in the Marketing, IT, and Editorial Operations divisions.

Designed multiple series of studies in response to proposal requests for multiple clients (government and commercial) with full costing and contract requirements. Managed projects from start to finish, overseeing technical efforts, timeline and budget issues. Generated interim and final reports to clients in preparation of FDA submissions. Managed staff involved in all aspects of study implementation and execution, including implementation of a staff vaccination program. Utilized PM tools such as Microsoft Project Gantt charts, EVMS, WBS and OBS, schedule performance indices, estimate to completion indices and many other PMI project management resources. As a Project Manager, responsible for 8-10 multi-million dollar projects simultaneously – from inception and initiation to execution and completion.

Developed and optimized assays to detect, quantitate and characterize viral agents (plaque assay, TCID 50, hemagglutination inhibition assay, indirect immunofluorescence assay, etc.) under GLP regulations for GLP studies. Developed and optimized assays to detect, quantitate and characterize immune response components (antibodies, cytokines, T cell proliferation, immunophenotyping, etc.). Supervised a GLP cell culture laboratory as a senior microbiologist for a major chemical and biological science supply company. Organized and executed numerous assay validation studies for both analytical and biological assays. Developed new and optimized existing assay techniques for quality control testing of cell culture products. Implemented and over sighted microbiological and viral testing methods to identify adventitious viral contaminants in biological products.

Conducted extensive studies to examine and elucidate pathogenic mechanisms involved in fulminant viral infections of animals as models of human disease. Developed and standardized assays to examine molecular processes involved in the pathogenesis and immunopathogenic processes of infection (elucidation of cellular and humoral immune response by flow cytometric methods, detection of gene regulation by microarray in response to viral infection, elucidation of cytokine response by flow cytometric bead array assay, examination of viral replication by immunohistochemistry, etc.) Identified pathological characteristics of four strains of Pichinde virus; an attenuated and virulent strain, and two reassortant viruses developed from the two naturally occurring strains. Conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments to elucidate the pathogenesis of the viral strains. Presented data at national meetings and published data in peer reviewed journals.
