Profile bio

About Kat West

I am an expert consultant and non-practicing environmental attorney with over 15 years of federal and state experience with Superfund, brownfields and contaminated property redevelopment. At U.S. EPA, I had the unique opportunity to help develop a legal land revitalization program after the 2002 Brownfield Amendments were passed by Congress. I helped draft many of the national EPA enforcement guidances and fact sheets, including the Top Ten Reasons to Buy a Superfund Site and the Prospective Purchaser Inquiry tool. In my current position, I support EPA's mission across the country by helping my clients understand the opportunities and problem-solve barriers to achieve successful redevelopment deals. Specialties: CERCLA & Clean Water Act, Superfund & Brownfield property revitalization, sustainability policy, health policy, legislative drafting and testifying, facilitation & negotiation, media spokesperson, public speaking, project management, event organizing and community outreach.Testimonials:"Our experience working with Kat West on the Quincy Smelter Superfund site was one of the best experiences we had dealing with regulatory consultants. We were interested in acquiring the former industrial property and preserving its historical significance, but we had gotten stuck and needed help navigating the path forward with U.S. EPA. Kat’s vast expertise on redevelopment issues and her relationship with EPA helped us quickly identify solutions related to cleanup and liability protections. She provided information and support that allowed us to avoid pitfalls which could have cost us additional time and money. I highly recommend to any non-profit, company or municipality that is looking to redevelop contaminated property to reach out to Ms. West - based on our experience, you’ll definitely want Kat on your team." Scott F. See, PhDFormer Executive Director, Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission
