Conducted studies to determine the biochemical signals (pain, stress, reproductive hormones) that recruit mast cells to specific nuclei of the mouse thalamus. Explored the influence of centrally located mast cells on the regulation of nociception and stress responses. Researched the ability of lipopolysaccharides and the activation of the TRPV1 receptor to induce musculoskeletal hyperalgesia and depressive behavior. Studied the role of stress hormones in the enhancement of mechanical pain sensitivity and in chronic mechanical hyperalgesia. Investigated the connection between body temperature, thermoregulation and depression in mice.
