About Kate Appleby

I am an Associate for Marks & Clerk LLP, a leading provider of intellectual property (IP) services as well as protection, strategy, dispute resolution, commercial and valuation services.I was born and raised in Whitley Bay. I studied for an integrated Master of Chemistry degree at Durham University, where I obtained a first class honours specialising in inorganic and physical chemistry. I went on to study for a PhD at the University of York in the field of inorganic catalysis and advanced NMR spectroscopy. On being awarded a PhD, I continued to work in the same research group as a Research Associate before entering the patent profession as a trainee patent attorney for Marks & Clerk LLP in 2017.My practice focuses exclusively on chemical and biochemical subject-matter, and I work with a variety of clients, particularly universities and chemical and pharmaceutical companies.
