Project curator for 'South Africa: The art of a nation' exhibition

During my contract at the Mary Rose I became involved in all areas and aspects of the new museum project. My role involved the cataloguing, photographing, packaging, transportation and storing of artefacts; the preparation of conservation-grade mounts for display; and the installation of objects for exhibition.As an installation assistant I had responsibility for the monitoring of climate conditions within showcases and ensuring their maintenance and upkeep; escorting, monitoring, and assisting contractors; and assisting in the drawing up of all necessary paperwork and security and safety procedures.I received formal training and gained experience in the manual handling of a wide range of objects and materials, becoming aware that each object must be approached with individual needs and installation procedures in mind. My time at the Mary Rose was split between the workshop, offices, and museum site as the job required, working alongside the curatorial, conservation, and collections team.
