About Kate Barrelle

Kate is a clinical and forensic psychologist who built STREAT’s support and training model and Youth Programs, impact tracking framework, and leads a team of allied health professionals skilled at working in job focussed or Work Integrated Social Enterprises. Kate’s passion is bridging the divide between research and practice, and building evidence-based frameworks and tools to help practitioners operate more effectively. She was selected as one of Australia’s leading 1000 thinkers for the 2020 Summit at Parliament House in 2008.Kate is the person who endlessly shares academic papers with the team at STREAT, and helps translate them into Human. Most people in the social enterprise sector wouldn’t know she’s also a global leader in Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and designed the Radar CVE case management tool and training materials that are used by CVE specialists across Australia. Prior to STREAT Kate spent nine years at the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) where she specialised in CVE and global security policy. She completed her PHD on CVE and remains a trusted advisor to governments, police forces, courts and counter-terrorism agencies. She is an Adjunct Fellow at Victoria University where she maintains her interest in applied research in building safe and inclusive communities.One of Kate's favourite roles is being the handler of Magic, STREAT's therapy dog. Magic is the Branch Manager at STREAT and brings joy and comfort to trainees, staff and customers alike.
