Head Of Design
CurrentAs Head of Design, I am responsible for the application of design strategies and to support the full range of British Library products and services. As part of the Library’s central marketing team, I work with marketing managers, press, communications, web and content teams to advise on and implement brand and design solutions. • Successfully led the implementation of the British Library’s new visual identity in 2012, which has resulted in a more coherent visual brand• Ensure the brand architecture is used effectively to provide a consistent design look and feel• Am lead designer and delegate work appropriately to the team, overseeing projects from conception through to delivery• Responsible for the look and feel of public spaces in the Library, both internal and external • Manage workflow and chair weekly production meetings• Ensure deliveries are on time and on budget• Brand consultant for the website and all aspects of digital marketing • Ensure house style and tone of voice are maintained• Advise on all partnership branding and licensed product to ensure a consistent standard of quality and integrity across all British Library branded work• Successfully rolled out branding for the Business & IP Centre National Network over the last 18 months, which included negotiating logo usage with several partners and the creation of a set of specific guidelines• Oversee the design of branded merchandise to be sold in the British Library Shop• Manage departmental budget• Responsible for the Library’s external print contract. Made a 75% reduction in print costs over the past 10 years• Provide effective leadership and management to the staff of the Design Office, including freelance support when required.
