I am responsible for coordinating and overseeing a large number of researches and analysis aimed at informing the development of the Peace and Development programme which will operate in the peripheral areas of Ethiopia from mid 2011. This role includes managing research consultants, ensuring quality of research, analysis of key findings and development of recommendations for the mechanisms and delivery areas of the PDP programme.

Ethiopia

Based on the border of Ethiopia and South Sudan, I am responsible for overseeing the activities of 31 team members and performance managing 11 staff. An important component of this role is capacity building with Pact staff and partners, linking peacebuilding theory with practise. I am also responsible for overseeing a number programs including HIV prevention, gender based violence and a women’s livelihoods program. Within the often tense and insecure environment of Gambella, I have established and coordinate a number of sectoral working groups with government, UN and community organisations and have close working partnerships with higher government officials and community leaders. In addition to program, staff and HR management, I oversee finances, grants and budgeting of all programs, in coordination with the national finance team. I am an active member of the Addis based senior management team and am involved in the development of organisation strategy, new business and policies. Show less

Skills transfer with a Cambodian national PEPA coordinator led to the sustainability of this initiative. Additionally, I represented the department in a ‘whole of government’ collaborative approach to supporting community development processes and promote social accountability. I also provided technical advice to the senior management team, and regional staff.In this diverse position, I worked with central government agencies, local authorities and rural and semi-urban communities, specifically Māori (hapū and iwi), refugee and migrant communities in New Zealand. The role involved building capacity within community-based service providers, groups and whole communities to encourage strong governance, clear strategic direction and access to resources. Relationship-brokering with local and central government and communities was central to this role. I was a national subject matter experts, responsible for mentoring new and current advisors on community development theory and practice, as well as advising on national-level decision-making. I contributed to the ‘Community Resource Kit’, a guide for communities and community based organizations introducing good governance practice examples of engagement and strategic planning. The role included the establishment of an intersectorial working group to undertake extensive community engagement and consultation for identifying the priorities of individual communities.
