Executive DirectorButler Koshland Fellowships Aug 2011 - Aug 2019San Francisco, Ca- First Executive Director of Butler Koshland Fellowships, an organization with a mission to identify and mentor the next generation of public service leaders and to build a vibrant intergenerational community made up of BKF Mentors and Fellows both past and present: a diverse group of leaders from a broad spectrum of educational, economic, and ethnic backgrounds and from a variety of fields in public service (e.g. racial justice, philanthropy, journalism, land conservation).- Lead all aspects of the operation and program in collaboration with an Advisory Committee composed of philanthropic and community leaders. Nominate and vet seasoned leaders to serve as BKF Mentors, each one an extraordinary executive leader in their field, including: María Blanco, University of California Immigrant Legal Services Center; Kate Kendell, National Center for Lesbian Rights; Greg Moore, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy; Eva Paterson, Equal Justice Society; Hugo Morales, Radio Bilingüe. - Search and selection of our emerging leaders, our BKF Fellows. After their fellowship, 70% of Fellows are offered employment at their Mentor’s organization while others have gone on to create their own organizations, including: José González, Latino Outdoors; Shannon Malone, Girls Policy Institute; Chris Bridges, It Takes A Village Nation. - Developed an individual and institutional giving program, garnering financial support from a broad array of philanthropic partners, including Blue Shield of California Foundation, Knight Foundation, San Francisco Foundation, Walter & Elise Haas, Jr. Fund, Zellerbach Family Foundation, and built a diverse network of enthusiastic supporters to assist in the identification of Mentor and Fellow candidates. - Created a signature annual event, WHO’S YOUR MENTOR?, to celebrate the transformative power of mentorship, which featured an eclectic mix of activists in conversation with their mentors, including Anna Deavere Smith, Steve Young, and Gloria Steinem. -

Responsible for acquisitions, budgets, contracts, and schedules for ad-hoc and multi-year book publishing partners including parks, museums, and cultural organizations. Signature projects: - Yosemite Imprint: A complex and prolific partnership between Heyday and the Yosemite Conservancy, supported both by retail sales and grants from various foundations, that published scientifically accurate books, maps, pamphlets, cards, and other gift items, in active consultation with all Yosemite National Park partners: Ansel Adams Gallery, The National Park Service, Delaware North Corporation, the Yosemite Institute, the Yosemite Association, and the Yosemite Fund. - Multicultural Children’s Publishing Program: A fully grant-funded multi-year children’s book publishing program focusing on inclusive environmental education for which I designed the first-of-its-kind conference on multicultural environmental education publishing; served as editorial director for program, executing on the program’s mission: to highlight the historical and contemporary contributions of women and people of color, especially Native Americans, African Americans, and Latinos and to show girls and children of color as active stewards of nature.- Publicity and Marketing: Conceived and executed the most successful publicity campaign in Heyday’s history for a book on multicultural Los Angeles, securing coverage in The New York Times, National Public Radio, USA Today, Good Morning America, La Opinión, The Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle and more.- Secured a grant from the Taproot Foundation for organization re-branding and managed the launch, including budgets, new logo design, print collateral, website renovation, mission statement text, and internal and external relations.- NEA funded to represent California at the Feria Internacional del Libro, Guadalajara. -
