My MSc Biology research involved mosquito-borne viruses in Newfoundland. I gathered temporal and spatial data on the mosquito vectors that carry snowshoe hare virus and Jamestown Canyon virus; as well I took serum samples from host species (ie: snowshoe hares and New Zealand white rabbits) to evaluate temporal activity of infection by looking for seroconversion of antibodies to these viruses. Thus began my interest in epidemiology. Awareness of the world around us and how everything is interconnected is vital to healthy and sustainable environments. In a broader sense I wish to help educate and assist people to become more aware. My knowledge base includes:- field research and design- laboratory protocols for DNA extractions and analysis - writing of scientific reports - formal and informal presentations and communication- data analysis- conceptual understanding of scientific literature
