I am an occupational hygienist working to protect the health of workers across some of our countries most high-risk sectors.I have a key focus on the control of airborne hazards and the prevention of dust diseases including silicosis which have been informed through the completion of a Master’s degree in Occupational Hygiene and a Winston Churchill Fellowship.I enjoy collaborating with key stakeholders to improve health outcomes. My work on industry collaboration across the tunnelling sector has been recognised at both a state level by SafeWork NSW and internationally through the International Tunnelling Association.By creating streamlined processes that help business protect their workers, my work has positively impacted our industry through increasing the focus on “health” in “health and safety”. It has also highlighted the need for targeted intervention in the infrastructure sector more broadly, and has resulted in the improved control of silica dust across the construction, tunnelling, and demolition workforce.In addition to my work as an independent consultant, I am a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney where I am researching respirable crystalline silica exposures to tunnel construction workers.
