In my time teaching both Year 5 and Year 6 at the St Margaret's and Berwick Grammar, I succeeded in;- teaching in accordance to both the Victorian Curriculum and the IB PYP curriculum standards- motivating boys to apply their personal best both inside and outside the classroom- catering for the specific needs of boys and using hands on activities, dynamic teaching styles and engaging lesson content to draw their attention- actively challenging students whose capabilities surpassed the curriculum standards- assessing children's level of ability and using this knowledge to inform my teaching practices- catering for children with specific learning needs - collaborating and forming respectful networks with other staff in order to gain more knowledge on how to best teach my students- building rapport with each individual student and embracing this to make learning more engaging and enjoyableIn my time as a co-educational Year 5 teacher, I enjoyed;- catering for the needs of both boys and girls in a classroom setting- catering for the diverse learning needs in the class/ cohort and recognising students who were in need of additional support and modified learning plans- planning meaningful, relevant and important inquiries for children to engage in - engaging students who had fixed mind sets about their abilities as a learner and encouraging a growth mind set- teaching students to be resilient, mindful and grateful through use of The Resilience Project
