I began my career in governmental accounting at North Dakota State University. Over my 4 years with NDSU, I learned the fine art of diplomacy, professionalism, and perseverance. Additionally, I was able to hone my skills in large-scale accounting and information systems.I then changed career courses and took a job with a company called Anderson & Roers, CPAs. This was a small firm with a niche market in healthcare accounting, specializing in Medicare bad debt and DSH reimbursement. I also had the opportunity to work with several large Texas hospitals while their state began their Medicaid system. This was a hugely exciting and diverse work, from policy writing to building financial plans and models for both payment and clinical reform. I thrived with this company because the goal was to learn as much as we could - about our industry, ourselves, and our impact on the world. It was very data intensive work, giving me extensive opportunities to learn about hospital systems, reimbursement, and revenue cycle. After A&R, I went to work for Interim Home Healthcare and Hospice as the assistant controller. This has was a fantastic experience as I was able to test both my accounting and people management skills in a fast-growing company. I was recruited to The Goodman Group as a Senior Accountant. As I grew into the position I oversaw the accounting and information systems for several home health agencies, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. I also delivered several acquisitions due diligence recommendations and supporting business plans.In 2017, my husband and I opened our own restaurant in my hometown of Hillsboro, ND. It was successful beyond our wildest ideas! Unfortunately, medical problems arose and we sold in 2023. It is still operating and we couldn’t be happier.
