About Kate Firestone, Phd

Greetings! My name is Kate and am a writer, editor, researcher, teacher, and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. I hold a PhD in Writing & Rhetoric from Michigan State University with an emphasis on cultural rhetorics. My dissertation, entitled "Sharing Stories, Making Space: Relational Literacy & Korean American Adoptee Rhetorics," uses a cultural rhetorics methodology of story and relationality to examine the role of racial isolation in the leadership practices of Korean American adoptee community leaders.I have 6 years of experience editing academic documents and working in university writing centers in both tutoring and administrative roles. I have 5 years of experience building and maintaining cross-campus relationships with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff for various diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. I specialize in mentoring and advocating for Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans (APIDAs), especially Asian American adoptees.
