I have currently finished my last university placement at the RNLI. This placement was an emerging role as there has been no previous Occupational Therapy input and no current OT position. I worked with the maintanence technicians in a variety of locations, looking specifically at maritime launch tractor annual planned maintanence. During this placement I identified: issues related to the working environment for the technicians, manual handling, body positioning and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use. I produced my findings in a report for the RNLI, highlighting issues with explanations and recommendations from an Occupational Therapy perspective. This was then presented in a short form to some of the managers from the Engineering and Supply Department, to highlight some of the most important findings, such as the current manual handling training and how it could be improved.
